Students at The Sheiling Ringwood are at the forefront of using technology to enhance their school work and help prepare them for life outside of education.

Following an extensive external assessment The Sheiling Ringwood has been awarded the prestigious ICT Mark. The award recognises the school’s success in developing the strategic use of technology not only within administration but across the curriculum for its students, all of whom have a special education need and severe and complex leaning disabilities.

Corine Van Barneveld, Principal, commented “On behalf of The Sheiling Ringwood, I am delighted to be awarded the ICT Mark. It recognises our positive approach to the use of technology and the benefits it is bringing to our students to enhance learning and to equip them for the modern world’’.

Dean Reilly-Sharp, the lead member of staff involved in ensuring the school was ready for ICT Mark assessment, commented:

“I am really pleased that the presentation of this award shows recognition of the excellent work that is taking place at The Sheiling. Applying for the award really brought into focus the ICT work that we are doing each and every day. All the students and staff deserve credit for this achievement.”

Mark Chambers, Naace CEO, said “The Sheiling Ringwood thoroughly deserve the accolade of an ICT Mark accreditation and we look forward to working with The Sheiling to demonstrate how technology can have a substantial impact on learner outcomes in the future’’

Residents at Brook View residential and nursing home have chosen to help raise money for The Sheiling Ringwood, a special education needs school, college and children’s home.

Brook View will be hosting several events throughout 2016, including a Tea Party on 10 June and a Christmas Gala on 2 December to help raise funds.

Some of the residents visited the beautiful fifty acre campus on a sunny May day to take a look at what happens at the school and college and they also had a chance to chat with some of the students in their classroom.

Amanda Cresswell, fundraiser for The Sheiling, said: ‘’It’s very touching to see older people engaging with young people and to be actively helping raise funds for projects and equipment to further enrich the lives of our students''.

Regional radio station Wave 105 has generously granted £3,400 to The Sheiling Ringwood.

These funds were granted as part of the Cash for Kids grant giving charity, backed by regional radio station Wave 105, which is committed to supporting local children under the age of 18, who are financially, socially, emotionally or physically disadvantaged.

Funds are raised in conjunction with Cash for Kids' local charity partner, FJB Hotels, who through the fundraising efforts of their staff and generous donations from guests, support the scheme.

The money will enable the Sheiling School to equip a new sensory room for students, helping ensure the needs of all children are met. Sensory play is an essential part of our students' learning and therapy. These funds will help achieve this and provide students with further wonderful sensory experiences.
