Speech & Language Therapy

The Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT) team supports a Total Communication approach throughout the Sheiling, across the whole day. We aim to develop communication skills by tailoring the communication styles to the individual and by supporting speech with signs, pictures, objects, gestures etc. We embed our speech and language provision into the academic day by promoting communication-friendly environments that are responsive and engaging for all students.

Speech and Language Therapy sessions may be with individuals or small groups.  They may include work on:

  • Supporting students with comprehension difficulties

  • Supporting students with expressive communication difficulties- this may include the use of Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC)

  • Supporting students with interaction/ social communication difficulties

  • Supporting students with speech sounds difficulties

  • Supporting students with emotional regulation difficulties
